Chevron Australia Pty Ltd, as operator of the Wheatstone Project is constructing and operating a multi-train LNG and domestic gas south-west of Onslow on the Pilbara coast. To accommodate the projected FIFO workforce required to operate the LNG plant, a FIFO Operations Village (FOV) is required to support the project.
Designed as the first operations village to be fully integrated within an existing townsite, landscaping will form an important part in creating a resort-style village atmosphere.
The FOV is to be an appealing place to stay for occupants and the landscape design incorporates a variety of attractive textures to groundscapes to soften the village appearance whilst assisting with integrating with the existing townscape. Endemic and waterwise plants and trees have be chosen with landscaping to complement the existing surrounding vegetation of Onslow. An emphasis on plant species significant to the traditional owners, the Thalanjyi has been important.
The hard and softscape areas have been designed in such a way to minimise maintenance by being climate-sensitive and designed ‘fit’ for the Onslow locale with an important consideration of cyclonic events.
