Following the Town of Victoria Park’s declaration of climate emergency, Emerge Associates was engaged to develop a Climate Emergency Plan. This Plan will guide the Town to achieve a zero-carbon outcome by 2030 and improve the Town’s climate resilience.
The plan focuses on initiatives that create both a carbon saving and economic benefit. These actions were tailored to both council, residents and local businesses.
In order to develop the plan, we undertook baseline carbon emission calculations to analyse the overall greenhouse gas footprint for Town. This included analysis of energy used in all council owned and operated buildings, council transport (fleet), waste and public lighting. The development of the plan also included community and council workshops and a community survey.
The plan is about to undergo public consultation and expected for adoption by mid 2021.
