Emerge Associates were engaged by Golden Group to provide a range of environmental and landscape architectural services to progress a major eco-tourism development immediately north of the existing coastal town of Seabird, within the Shire of Gingin. The development will include a world class resort/wellness facility, a number of ‘eco-cabins’, camping/’glamping’ facilities and short stay holiday/strata dwellings.
The key issues considered and resolved through the Emerge work package include water planning/water sensitive design, declared rare flora, threatened ecological communities, conservation significant fauna, conservation area management, recreational access management and control, coastal processes and setbacks, coastal management, landscape planning and management, non-potable water supply planning, bushfire risk planning and management, ecotourism opportunities research and interpretation, and landform management and restoration/revegetation.
To date the works have been primarily focused on supporting an amendment to the Shires planning scheme to secure a ‘Tourism’ zone over the site. This has involved extensive environmental baseline surveys to understand the site’s environmental characteristics and values, and to support referral of the scheme amendment to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
