The Bentley 360 project and the surrounding suburb is recognised as an urban heat island hotspot; an area that experiences higher temperatures than neighbouring areas. In order to reduce temperatures and increase the social wellbeing for residents, Emerge was engaged to deliver an Urban Greening Strategy, a strategic document that provided a comprehensive urban greening approach.

The development of the Urban Greening Strategy involved understanding the true values of urban greening beyond shade and heat reduction. These values are reflected across better social and wellbeing, economic and environmental outcomes including:

The strategy was supported by background environmental studies to understand what existing canopy and vegetation cover was present within the site, and the best conditions for tree retention and growth as the project progresses.

The development of the Urban Greening Strategy focused on incorporating greening across all aspects of the development including; in the built form, streetscapes and parks. Consideration of plant selection, plant placement, maintenance, irrigation and establishment were also incorporated into the strategy.

Emerge were also engaged on the development of an alternative energy solution strategy and the environmental management of the Bentley 360 project including ecology related deliverables.
