With Working with Nature in mind, some of the Emerge Westport project team visited the artificial reef off C.Y O’Conner Beach in North Coogee this week and snorkelled out to the reef to review the extent of marine life that has made the reef home over the last two years.
The reef aims to reduce wave power moving through Cockburn Sound and hitting the adjacent beach to limit erosion while also creating a new marine habitat in place of seagrass that no longer inhabits this part of the coast. It was a great morning and helped illustrate what is possible in terms of marine habitat creation.
