An exciting new chapter for the North Perth community has recently been unveiled with the opening of North Perth Common. The public area, located at the corner of Fitzgerald and View Street, was conceptualised in collaboration with Emerge Associates and Stephen Pennock from Art+. The result is an accessible pedestrian and bike-friendly green space shrouded in shade and tree canopy, with an additional 13 trees being planted. A public art feature, in the form of a fluorescent lighting installation by Pennock, is also a major drawcard and adds a touch of modern character.

The newly established common area is an initiative by the City of Vincent that received a $250,000 contribution from the State Government. Speaking of its potential to revitalise the North Perth community, Planning Minister Rita Saffioti said: “It’s initiatives like these that can give a main street some soul and enable things like events and music to create some atmosphere.” The new area is also primed to boost local jobs and businesses.

North Perth citizens and visitors to the area can expect many more developments soon, with the area being part of a larger initiative to create more pedestrian links in the North Perth town centre.
